
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is a novel by the German writer Patrick Süskind, published in 1985. The novel depicts the life story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, an orphan living in the XVIII century in France. Grenouille was born with an exceptional sense of smell that allows him to distinguish the most subtle fragrances. Grenouille becomes a perfumer and then, guided by fragrances, a murderer. To date, Perfume is among the best-selling German novels of the XX century, it has been translated into 49 languages and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
