The Gods Are Athirst is a 1912 novel by the French writer Anatole France. The novel is based on historical events. The book depicts the most dramatic period of the Great French Revolution, namely the dictatorship of the Jacobins led by Robespierre. The novel's protagonist, the painter Évariste Gamelin, is a loyal supporter of the Punishers, and this radically changes his fate and, most importantly, his personality.
