Marianne Dashwood falls in love with the dashing John Willoughby and ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behavior makes her vulnerable to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile, Elinor, being sensitive to social relationships, struggles to hide her own disillusionment with love even from the people closest to her. Through their experience, the sisters come to the conclusion that if they want to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love, feeling must be combined with sensitivity.
