The Scarlet Letter: A Romance is the main piece of an American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, published in 1850. The novel is dedicated to the Puritan society of the mid-seventeenth century. The novel tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter through an affair. She is being censured by society and must wear an embroidered red "A" on her dress. In this way, the book raises themes of sin, guilt, intolerance, and remorse, also there are a lot of historical allusions to the Puritan religious society of the time.
