“The Lost World” is a science fiction novel by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle, published in 1912, concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals (dinosaurs and other extinct creatures) still live. The main character of the work is Professor Challenger. Interestingly, the book is not focused on dinosaurs. Much more time is devoted to a war between early human hominids and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures.
