A Farewell to Arms is a novel by Ernest Hemingway about the First World War. The novel was first published in 1929. The story is told by the lieutenant Frederic Henry, an American working as an ambulance driver in the Italian Army. He falls in love with a nurse from England, Catherine Barkley. The couple has to run away together. And it seems that all the troubles are over, but, in fact, they are just about to begin.
