«Night Pieces» in German with a Parallel Translation

The Night Pieces is the first part of the book of stories by Ernst Hoffmann, published in 1816. This part includes such stories as The Sandman, Ignaz Denner, The Jesuits' Church in G., Sanctus. The Sandman describes the life story of Nathaniel, a student traumatized as a child. The trauma always jumps to the forefront of his mind in the guise of the alchemist Coppelius, but Nathaniel tries to cope with it.
